The L.F.G. (Roland) C.II 2-seater biplane was an advanced design and one of the best German aircraft on the Western Front during the second half of 1916. Dramatically streamlined, it was said to be as fast as the opposing Nieuport and Pup fighters, although it was less maneuverable and took considerably longer to reach an altitude of 10,000 feet.
This drawing shows the Roland in a highly distinctive fishscale design, perhaps derived from its nickname Walfisch (Whale). This is the most detailed aircraft I have drawn so far. It will print very nicely on a PostScript printer, but be prepared to wait a while. Because it is an EPS drawing (from an original FreeHand file), you’ll need to “Place” or import it into a page layout or PostScript drawing program.
